veterans day program

Tomorrow, up at the Buffalo school district where she-who-must-be-obeyed teaches, they are having a reception and program for veterans who live in the district and Logan county. This is the first time they have tried this kind of thing and is the idea of the students enrolled in FCCLA, which she teaches. From the sound of things they had a good response and 40 veterans are going to arrive by 10AM for a program organized by the students. After the program the veterans will have lunch with the students and be spread out through the lunchroom so they and the students can talk to each other on a personal basis. I'm hoping it all goes well because it sounds like a good idea.

What was interesting was reading some of the letters from those that, for one reason or another, wouldn't be able to attend. I think the most touching was a reply written by the daughter of a WWII vet. Her Dad had died just 3 days before receiving the invitation. She said it was the first time that she knew of that he had been invited to a gathering such as the school program and was sure that he would have attended had he been able. Another veteran wrote back that he was wheelchair bound and didn't want to create a problem because of that so wouldn't attend, but he did appreciate the invitation. The president of the FCCLA chapter took it upon herself to drive over to his house and personally see him and make it clear that being in a wheelchair was not a problem. He changed his mind and will be attending.

I'm anxiously awaiting a report on how this all comes off. I hope it will turn out to be an annual event, which is what the FCCLA students are aiming for. They have had the full cooperation of the school administration - the superintendent spent 20 years in the service and the high school principal is a veteran - so I'm hoping for the best.

Strangers asking questions

Yesterday I received an Email from a total stranger who asked if I could find any one that knew a particular Veteran from the 1/2 in 1969. He said that he had seen a blark scarf on this man's wall in his work shop.

Do we have any "rules" regarding answering such requests? Thanx
Been away for awhile guys.

I was inpatient at the VAMC West Roxbury for 8 days, getting out last Tueasday, a week ago with a bit of Congestive Heart Failure.

So far, all treatments with medications and diet (do you know how many products, including Jello, have salt in them???)

In the future there will probably be med adjustments, possibly including heavier duty mends.

I was also over hydrated, 268 lbs at check in, 242 (and still swollen feet ankles and legs 8 days later at check out.)

Difficult walking, as I wsn't using the legs much and they gave me no rehab.

Easy to read posts, harder to concentrate and reply.

BCC
