I was in country from April 1967 to April 1968 as the platoon leader of mike platoon. I'm looking for information and/or names during this time frame. I know Mr Coon and Mr Defibaugh served with that unit. Thanks in advance for your help.

I just discovered this site and am anxious to reconnect. Does anybody remember Lt Dan Starnes? We were fellow platoon leaders with the 1st of the 2nd. Time frame April 67 to April 68. Initially stationed in Phuoc Vinh and then Quon Loi. He was KIA on one of our frequent search & destroys. I can't remember which company we were in, so I'm counting on somebody out there to bring me up to speed. Regards

Does anyone know what happened to the Vietnamese orphan boy Nui that company B 2/2 Infantry sponsored. Did he go to Dietang when the battalion left Lai Khe. He was always in the company area when we came out of the field for a stand down. during 1967-1968. The last time I saw him is when I saved his life before I came deroes in Dec 1968 at the company motor pool from some dinky-dau soldiers from the 1/2 Inf who had fought in AnLoc/Loch Nihn when Gen Ware was killed in Sept 1968. Just curious, and by the happy New Year 2010.

Its nice to see that middle of the road Americans still have a mind of their own and will vote it the way they see fit. The election in Mass. just goes to prove that neither the right nor the left hold the key to politics but that its held buy free thinking independents that will choose the person they think most fits their need at the time.

It was funny to see that the Rep. candidate that won wanted nothing to do with the republican party and would not allow them to use their moniker on any of his ads be they print or T.V. and just branded himself a Conservative thinker that would vote the will of the people.

As far as the Demos. go they have chosen to fall in the same hole the republicans feel into just a year ago thinking their $ h i t didn't stink. Well Joe Independent wasn't about to buy into that kind of thinking for either party.

My feeling is change is good and that the American people are learning their lesson on listening to either of the major parties and are being as strong as ever to vote the person they see fit.

For you nay Sayer's, the American voter is still just dandy in my book and I'll trust him and his vote anytime be it right, left or middle of the road.

Sorry for you dudes that thought I was a dyed in the wool Demo. but rather would just like to think of myself as a good American.

First Vietnam National Memorial

Has anyone else from the Regiment ever been to this memorial built by Dr. David Westphall? It is located at Angelfire New Mexico and was built to honor Dr. Westpal's son Victor, who was killed on May22,1968in the Nam. He is a Marine but I forget his rank. I believe he was a platoon leader. I was privileged to go there with a group of other vets from our local Vet Center here in Prescott AZ. We were privileged to meet Dr. Westphall who was well advanced in years at the time and has since joined his son in heaven I expect. This memorial was actually the first built to honor those who have died as a result of helping those who would desire liberty like ours and to honor their courage and sacrifices. The structure is actually a chapel and there is also a store / museum of sorts. The building was started with the funds from his son's life insurance.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit this memorial I hope you would do so. The remodel of it is scheduled to be complete May 22,2010 and that is near the time of our visit on May 26, 2002. Al Hoster was our group's leader and has written an article about the visit in the Vet Center Voice vol.24, No.1. Al has retired as a vet center counselor.
