I will be at the reunion this August. Probably the last get together for folks from Firebase Gela. We're getting older and fewer, ya know.
I see some of you folks are going to be there - Luther Patton, John Kerins, etc. and plan on dropping in and saying howdy. If you guys have the time, I might suggest you take a look at this. The veterans art museum is worth the time to get there (about half an hour from the reunion site) and pretty doggone interesting. Chek out this link and do a little rambling around on their site. http://nvam.org/Module/Event/EventDetail/The_Lost_Children_of_Chon_Thanh?id=47 See you there.

I see the original post didn't have a name. Silly my. This is old O.O.O. Joe checking in. Keeping in line with my original post, you might want to check out this website - http://red1publishing.com/newsupdates.html Put together by Larry Johns, whose brother was killed at Gela, the site has some information about the veterans art museum. Also a couple of pretty good slideshows complete with music. Click on the images/videos link and turn up the sound. See ya at the reunion.

I was assigned to 1st Plt A Co 2/2 1st INF DIV in 1968 & 1969. But for the life of me I can`t remember where FIREBASE GELA was. My memory on some things is really slipping now. I truly wish I could attend Your Reunion and see all of you guys once more. So You Guys have a Great Reunion and really enjoy yourselves. Being assigned to my Old Unit was one of the High Points of my entire life. I was and still am extremely proud of being able to say. Once upon a time I was allowed to serve with some real men, and I thank You All for that.

Kenneth, your memory is just fine - Gela was a 28th inf firebase about 15 k's southeast of Dau Tieng (as I recall) south of the Michelin plantation in an area known as the Onion. Almost due west of Lai Khe. Us aarty guys are well travelled, ya know.
