Anyone who served with my father, Lt. Dan C. Starns Jr. Big Red One, 2nd bat. Co. B. KIA July, 1967. Earned Silver Star, Bronze Star & Purple Heart. I would like to know the ACTUAL area his platoon drew fire & where & how this terrible action took place. I was 4 at the time. I've read & been told different accounts. Looking for the truth. Thank you for your help!!! Dan C. Starns III.

On 18 July 1967 Company B, 1 st Battalion, 2 nd Infantry located a heavily fortified VC base camp, they called in air strikes and a one hour artillery barrage before moving forward to check the area. As Company B initially moved into the base camp they were halted by a hail of VC claymores setting off a violent three hour battle. Contact was broken off as night set in and additional air strikes were called before departing for their secure NDP (Night Defensive Position). Six soldiers from Company B and one from HHC were killed. This action took place in Bien Hoa Province, South Vietnam. Larry Grzywinski Historian 2d INF REGT ASSN

Mr Denny Eister,
Hopefully you may see this, but I saw you created a remembrance page for a man named Cpt. Richard Galan from Florida, killed in the An Xuyen province in 1967. Is there by chance you knew him? I'm his grandson, I've never heard much about him, and I'm hoping maybe you could answer some questions if warranted thank you for your service, George Vithoulkas
