Please chime in. I hope we get some consensus on this and maybe send a letter of admonition from the Association to the NFL.  I received an email from a friend this morning, asking my thoughts on the brouhaha in the NFL over our National Anthem and our National Colors.  This is my reply.

It is DISGRACEFUL!!!
All the "free speech" advocates (and I advocate free speech vociferously) talk about is their right to free speech. To that point, I agree.  They leave out the other half, the yin to the yang.  All actions and all speech have CONSEQUENCES!!!!  Good or bad.  I say boycott the NFL until they realize that, yes, the players have a right to "protest" but the fans have a right to boycott the games and sponsors until the owners take action and suspend each player who disrespects our nation and its colors.
You disrespect the flag or our NATIONAL Anthem at the game, immediate suspension for one week without pay, and ejection (forcible if necessary) from the stadium.

I have been a Patriots fan since their inception, was an "Original" stockholder (5 shares), ushered  the games at Fenway Park in the 60's, worked (unpaid) as a training camp aide in 1967 at Philips Andover.  My roomie was Patrick Sullivan, later the team's GM.

In 68 I enlisted in the Army and even stopped by training camp to let the guys know. They all wished me well.
I volunteered for and served 15 months in Viet Nam.  Pat Horne wrote a nice comment about me in his Boston Sunday Advertiser column (Pat was later named PR Director of the Patriots)

58 thousand of my brethren died for our colors in Viet Nam, many more in previous and future service.
My 2nd cousin, Garrett Lynch was lost on the USS Growler in the South Pacific.

My great great grandfather, Moses C Bartlett, 1st Sergeant of Company B, 35th Massachusetts Infantry, was killed in action by a rebel sniper at "The Crater" in the Battle of Petersburg in 1864.

These disgraceful individuals dishonor EVERY American who served this country, who bled for this country, who died for this country.

Forget the tailgate parties, turn off the NFL, do not do business with their advertisers until the owners teach these individuals about consequences.

Many contracts have a "moral turpitude" clause.
Disrespecting our National Colors, our national Anthem, our Nation is clearly a case of "Moral Turpitude".

I agree with Eddie,
Well said BCC. I will sign.
It is a total disgrace.  I guarantee this would not be happening during or after WW Two, or during the Korea  War.

"Free Speech" does not equate to "No Consequences for what is said".  All of us worked some place and we all knew that there were things we could do/say on the job and things that would result in consequences.  This is the same senario.  The fans should stop watching and attending the games until these team members stop disrespecting the Anthem/Flag.  Further, the team owners have every right to discipline those players, who are on the clock when on the field, who continue this behavior.  None of these players are that necessary to their teams. I have already signed several petitions on Face Book and my local message board, so
I would be happy to add my name to an association letter.

Remind your tyeams and local papers how we feel.  Send this to them.

I walked through a county courthouse square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said, your old courthouse is kinda run down
He said, naw, it'll do for our little town
I said, your old flagpole has leaned a little bit
And that's a ragged old flag you got hanging on it
He said, have a seat, and I sat down
Is this the first time you've been to our little town?
I said, I think it is
He said, I don't like to brag
But we're kinda proud of that ragged old flag
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there when
Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing say can you see
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the texas flag, but she waved on though
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg
And the south wind blew hard on that ragged old flag
On Flanders field in World War one
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun
She turned blood red in World War Two
She hung limp and low a time or two
She was in Korea and Vietnam
She went where she was sent by Uncle Sam
She waved from our ships upon the Briny foam
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home
In her own good land here she's been abused
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused
And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more
So we raise her up every morning
We take her down every night
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold her up right
On second thought, I do like to brag
'Cause I'm mighty proud of that ragged old flag

The NFL & NBA just doesn't exist to me any more. They have disrespected My Flag, and My Country. And I won't forgive them for that. To be real honest I never cared much for jock`s. And a high percentage of them are nothing but Thugs. But that is just my personal opinion, after being around and observing a few of them over the years.
