Tom, Doc Neal and Erma the Monkey was Killer at the end of Match 1968 on Highway 13 on the was back from Chahn Thanh when their Track Hit a Land Mine. SSG Barks "Mother" and I carried Doc Neal's body to the dustoff helicopter along with His Monkey...The First Sergeant was also injured that day approximate time was 1600 hours.....B 2/2 Inf was operating/located at the new Thunder 1.The Guy who the First Sergeant with Doc Neal took to the aid Station at Chahn Thanh was from my Platoon "3rd" was not injured at all.Lai Khe during the Month of March 1968 was constantly recieving Rocket fire, that's how Lai Khe was called Rocket City.....It was more safer in the field than at Lai Khe.I remember Erma the Monkey very well because when I'd go to the Medical Track the Monkey would jump in my shoulder to play with my and I would tell the medic to come get His Monkey.

Curtis,
Erma knew when the rockets were coming over before anyone else.
One night when Charlie was firing rockets, we had Erma at our fox hole. She'd be sitting there when all of a sudden she started shaking. Her ears would perk up, and with her head and eyes she would scan the path of the rockets as they passed over head.

Hi Steve good to hear from you,I will always remember Ermma the Monkey for her always jumping on my shoulder playing with my ears when I visited the medic Track. That was a sad day when both Doc Neal and Ermma got killed.Steve You remember the other Monkey that B 2/2 Inf had back in the rear in Lai Khe company area that was chained to the tree by the shower that would jump in a passer byers back by surprise, especially in the night scaring the holy crap of the Individual (Like me one night in my way back from Lai Khe Village during mid Jan 1968 when the company conducted convoy operations to Phu Loi). After the TET Offensive Jan 31-13 Feb 1968 during our 2 day stand down the Monkey was foundation Deadline hanging from the tree by chained neck before we departed Lai Khe on 15 Feb 1968 to build the new Thunder 1.

Correction to misspelled words:Foundation should read "foundation" and Deadline should read "dead".
