We all remember names, but do we know were these men are today?

Logging into this site over the past couple of years made me think, "What if we all posted the names, Company, Track #, year served, etc.,  of those we remember?"

As we (and perhaps the men whose names we list), scan these messages, we might see a name and say, "Hell!, I know that guy, I just talked to him last week."  We could contact the person, and let him know that someone posted his name on this site, and give him the option of contacting the person who listed his name.

I've no problem saying "I ain't Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" and I'd sure like to know where these men are today.

These men were with B-Co, 2/2,
Johnny Johns            Squad Leader, Track 221, '66-'67.
Bill Tillerson              Track 221  '66-'67

Ron,

In your list of men you mentioned a Richard D. Anderson.

There was an Anderson in our Squad that served from '66 t0 '68.

Don't know if it's the same one, but here's a photo.

From left to right:

Robert Taylor - Far left ('67 to '68);  From Seattle, WA
Anderson - Center with Irma ('66 to '68);  From Bermingham, Al.
Roy Firmin - Far right ('67 - '68); From Louisiana.  Roy past away in the 80's.

Let me know if it's the same.

I won't be able to make the Reunion this year, but I told my wife we need to clear our calander for 2008.

Later,

Ron,
TGIF!!, It's been a rough week.  I need to correct myself from my last reply.  The man I'm referring to is "Richard D. Livingston"  NOT Anderson.

The man in the photograph is "LIVINGSTON."

I work in a funeral home, and one of our cases is named Anderson.  Somehow I got caught in names during my break-time  (must be sniffing too much formaldehyde).  I'd better double check and make sure I didn't file this mans Death Certificate with Livingston's name on it.

Sorry for any confussion.

That Irma sure got around!  (See the photo above.)

I have attached several photos of Irma - the monkey.

I picked her up from a guy who was leaving Vietnam in April or May, 1967.  I kept her for several months until she just got to be too much to handle in the field so I gave her to a guy in the motor pool so he could keep her in Lai Khe.  A few years ago I found her on a web page belonging to Capt. Sonny Gratzer.  I found out she was killed while riding on the sholder of Doc Neal when he stepped on a land mine.  Both were KIA.

Over the past couple of years her picture keeps popping up with other guys.

James F. Chapman,              C 2-2
Charles T. Stuphin               C 2-2
James R Barret                    A 1-2
Roger L. Beeman              HHC 2-2
David P. Winden                  B 2-2

The period would be around 1967 - 1968 and they were on various orders I was also on. I thought I would put them out for anyone in the regiment.

Glad to see that people are looking for people. I was in C 2/2 squad leader for track 314 Dec 66-dec67. We were the first to get the tracks after the Battalion was devastated in Sep-Oct 66.
I live in Cleveland, OH give me a email if your coming to town or live near by.

The only other person I have found from C 2/2 is SGT Bernard Shaw, Squad Leader Track 311. He is in Port St Lucie,FL.

Mark,

Just returned from St Louis and the BRO reunion and saw your posting.  I served with HHC 2/2 from July 1966-July 1967 and I am curious about what you said.

What exactly did you mean when you said that the Bn was "devastated in Oct-Sept 1966".  The Bn was operationing in and around Phu Loi in Operation Lam Son II, a pacifacation operation.  There were several run ins with the enemy but nothing that could be called devastating.  At the time there was also a rear detachment back at Lai Khe working on constructing more permanent structures such as mess halls, barracks and the like.

As far as being first with APC's I'd say that would go to the Motor Pools when they started learning how to repair and mantain them and train personel to drive them.  The Bn returned to Lai Khe in December to begin changing over to and training in operating as a mechanized infantry unit, we were a regular infantry Bn up until that time.  The 2/2 officially became a Mechanized Infantry Battalion on 1 Jan 1967.

I served with 2/2 from Oct 68-Oct 69 at Lai Khe, Thunder 4, AnLoc, and Dau Tieng. I was the Maintenance Tech assigned to D Co. I have seen and talke to some of the other members.  Gary Tucker was an LTC at training at Ft Lewis in about 1991 or 1992. I just located my good buddy Charles Christman
yesterday in Ohio. He was Dusted off from Thunder 4 after taking a close mortor round at my track.  He sounded well and we plan to meet this summer. What a shock. This message board is really cool!!

I was a medic with Bravo Co. 2/2nd from about June-Oct. '67, when I went to 2/28th for the rest of my tour.  I would enjoy hearing from anyone who remembers me.

I'm attaching a few photos, including one of the monkey, which I think belonged to 2nd Platoon at that point, being chased by the 3rd Platoon mascot, Grunt.

Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

I was in 38 section of recon, if my memory serves me. I was with HHC from March '69 till when we left in '70 for Ft. Riley. That was in April, I think. I was on track 69 and 62 and another one, I think. I was at Thunder 4, Thunder 2, Rocket City (for stand down), and Dau Tieng. I was assigned to the bridge platoon in Dau Tieng for a month or so when I got back from Japan. Then I was on the command track. I think we were the section that drew bunker line guard in Dau Tieng during Black Virgin.

I ran into John De La Cruz in '97, he was living in Los Angles.

Rick Simonson, now in Utah, but rarely the same place for very long.

I have a list of 1500 men that served in the 2/2 (Mech)From late 1968 until April 1970. This list is too large to post here as I have it in a format that helps me identify people.  If any of you have questions about your buddies in that time period, please contact me and I will try to help you.  This fall, I plan to get the names of the men that served from Tet 1968 until the division left Vietnam.
