Been away for awhile guys.

I was inpatient at the VAMC West Roxbury for 8 days, getting out last Tueasday, a week ago with a bit of Congestive Heart Failure.

So far, all treatments with medications and diet (do you know how many products, including Jello, have salt in them???)

In the future there will probably be med adjustments, possibly including heavier duty mends.

I was also over hydrated, 268 lbs at check in, 242 (and still swollen feet ankles and legs 8 days later at check out.)

Difficult walking, as I wsn't using the legs much and they gave me no rehab.

Easy to read posts, harder to concentrate and reply.

Hi BCC, hang in there Brother.  I need to go back and have my heart checked out.   I have already had five stents put in, and I have not been doing my diet like I should be, or exercising like I need to be doing but going to start.
You will be in my Prayer's!

   BCC,
Hope everything is going alright, guess you'll have to start your own rehab, even if it's exercising while sitting down and just doing arm and leg lifts for a while.  Get well soon hope your feeling better.

  Hi BCC,
Since I retired three years ago i've put on about 40lbs., i'm now at about 245lbs.. I'm trying to get my weight down but it's really hard because of the meds i'm on tend to make me feel tired, the wife and I try to take walks together daily.
Senior Hood is no fun when your dealing with the changes going on in your body, i'll be praying for you and my other brothers that you'll have success to return back to good health, GOD BLESS!

good to have ya back, hang in there. i have had some flair ups with my blood sugar. have cut back a lot. my weight is my biggest problem. my wife is to good of a cook, so she is going to have to quit cooking so may sweet things. i have put on about 60 pounds in the 12 years we have been together, and along with  all the other things, it just makes it more difficult to lose the weight.

BCC, sorry to hear of the problems but perhaps these new facts released by the VA'S new guidelines can help you out. I have the same problem as you with the ticker and also went A-Fib a little over a year ago. They stuck my finger in a light socket last may and got my rhythm back in sink and the new meds have kept it that way.

The Va has determined that Congestive heart failure is a byproduct of Agent Orange and now is an automatic for your disability rating so check in to it. Also have them check your thyroid and its function, they missed mine for a year and finally had to burn it out, it made me sicker than the damn heart.

As always glad to have you and your sense of humor back on track and for gods sake check out what I said above.

BCC, my brother hope that you are getting better. Sorry to heard that you are having health problems. Maybe if you come down to FL and visit I get you back in shape. Here is my advice- no red meat- eat more fish (ocean fish), chicken not fry, lot of vegetables and put olive oil on it for dressing--no bread, potatoes, butter, no drinking--only water- no smoking.

Walk at least 30 minutes every day. Go to the gym 3 times a week. drink 5 glasses of water daily.

If you keep this diet for a month- guarantee you get better.

1. Breakfast in the morning. Hot cereal toast no butter, coffee no sugar.
2. Lunch, Tuna Sandwich and soup. No sodas period.
3. 3 PM some fruit.
4. Salad and some fish or chicken, turkey. No fry food.

Stay way from the sweets, no cake.

I am 70 now and in good shape-I have to deal with diabetes and high cholesterol and I keep then in check at a safe level (Control). By the way no Viagra here.

****** Getting a Cardiac checkup this Tuesday at VAMC La Jolla. As of 3 weeks ago I have an irregular pulse and an ocasional racing heart for a few minutes most nights as I lay down. A little collar bone pressure , but being OCD my mind accelerates things.

***** EKG is just about notmal & BP and Cholesterol are good supposedly . Weight 205 most of the time - 5'11" so as I approach 63 my situation is on paper not too bad - However????

****** That Diet scares the Hell out of me. Crumbcake & Doughnuts are a bit hard to give up.

****** Glad we are all about to get the Health Care some really deserve.
